Flowserve to provide pumps for DuPont's clean fuel process

Flowserve Corporation, a provider of flow control products and services for the global infrastructure markets, recently announced a multi-million dollar order for newly developed, custom-engineered, critical service reactor recycle pumps to be used in the new DuPont IsoTherming process. The order was booked in the second quarter of 2012, according to a report from Reuters.

DuPont IsoTherming Hydroprocessing Technology helps petroleum refiners produce ultra-low-sulfur fuel in a more economical and flexible way. The Flowserve pumps are designed to operate at the high pressures and temperatures required in the DuPont IsoTherming process, while also maximizing online availability and minimizing repairs. The pump design is based on the Flowserve model PR reactor recycle pump, which is used worldwide in various residuum oil upgrading processes.

The order represents a new market for Flowserve technology. An engineering team from Flowserve worked closely with DuPont for several years to develop a pump solution that met the technical and commercial needs in the production of clean fuels. In addition to the pumps, the order also includes the advanced Flowserve Online Assurance Monitoring system, which allows the user to monitor the pump's conditions in real time.

"We are extremely proud that DuPont Sustainable Solutions chose the Flowserve reactor recycle pumps and Online Assurance Monitoring system for this application," said Jim Quain, president, Engineered Pump Operations. "The potential involvement of Flowserve in future applications of the DuPont IsoTherming process represents a new and exciting market for us."
