Graco Debuts New Positive Displacement Proportioner
Graco is a leading manufacturer of fluid-handling equipment. Based in Minneapolis, the company specializes in the management of fluids and coating in both industrial and commercial applications and recently announced the launch of its new positive displacement proportioner.
The ProMix PD2K enables customers to mix paint more efficiently, using less paint and spending less money on disposal costs while changing colors faster. The new positive displacement proportioner is able to offer these benefits by mixing material close to the gun, making the flush zone significantly smaller than traditional systems. Ideal for short pot life materials, the ProMix PD2K is also compatible with acid-based materials.
"Launching this technology is very exciting,” says Graco Global Product Marketing Manager, Blake Erickson. "Our customers were looking for ways to increase efficiency in their plants, and by moving the mixing point closer to the gun, it is possible to reduce solvent use and mixed material waste by up to 80 percent compared to traditional electronic proportioners."
100% positive displacement technology ensures the ProMix PD2K Proportioner produces accurate mix ratios (within 1 percent accuracy) and more consistent pump performance. Available with either two or four dosing pumps, the proportioner can handle up to 30 colors and four catalysts. It also allows customers to proportion both epoxy and urethane in a single system versus using multiple units to achieve an equivalent result.
"This proportioner is very easy to set up and maintain. It handles various inbound pressures and viscosities without touchy fine-tuning," says Erickson. "And unlike gear pumps, the ProMix PD2K has positive displacement precision dosing pumps that do not require factory rebuilds and can be serviced in the field in less than 20 minutes."
The Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers (AWFS) recognized ProMix PD2K with the Visionary New Product Award in the Green/Environmental category at the AWFS Fair in July. Graco’s proportioner was one of 66 woodworking products entered in the competition for this award, which is based on innovation, quality, and ingenuity.
