KSB Introduces New Canned Motor Pumps for Chemical and Process Engineering ApplicationsMay 22, 2015
KSB, a leading producer of pumps and valves, recently unveiled new leak-free canned motor pumps from its Ecochem Non-Seal range. The pump manufacturer designed this product range to transport hazardous, aggressive, flammable, and explosive fluids while handling toxic and extremely hot or cold media and volatile liquids.
KSB combines the successful, standardized chemical pump known as the MegaCPK with the groundbreaking canned motors built by Japanese cooperation partner, Nikkiso, in order to create its new, leak-free canned motor pumps. The pumps’ dimensions comply with ISO 2858 and meet the requirements of the DIN/EN/ISO 15783 and API 685 standards while ensuring economic operation with the new energy-optimized electric motor design. The low-noise motor also features a corrosion-resistant can made of Hastelloy.
The leak-free canned motor pumps will be available in four standard variants that feature a specific design for standard chemical applications including heat transfer fluids, polymerizing or ferrite-containing fluids, and a special variant for low-boiling fluids and liquefied gases.
The pump sets have also been designed to meet the requirements of explosion protection class II 2 G c Ex de IIC to Atex TR and IEC Ex, and temperature classes T1 to T5. Its lubricated plain bearings can be constructed of pure silicon carbine or a silicon-carbine-graphite compound, which allows the bearing configuration to flawlessly match the pump’s operation.
In addition, the pump casing can be heated, which allows the pump to avoid blockage. The motors are rated up to 75 kW, with 16 different motor sizes available. The number of parts that require storage is reduced with these new pumps thanks to the motor bearings’ modular design, which ultimately cuts back on warehousing costs for the pump end user.
An E-Monitor option is available that can monitor the axial and radial conditions of the bearings, while eliminating the need for phase rotation with an integrated direction-of-rotation feature. This built-in operating status indicator is extremely useful, especially in loud environments; power is supplied to the E-Monitor through the terminal box, so no external cabling is required.
