Xylem’s Flygt MultiSmart Controller Increases Pump Station Efficiency

A next-generation intelligent pump station controller from Xylem claims it can reduce energy consumption by 35%. Xylem, a global leader in submersible pump and water technology, recently introduced Flygt MultiSmart. The controller is specifically designed for pump station applications, enabling operators to maximize the efficiency of their facility, saving time and money.

Xylem showcased its Flygt MultiSmart at the Water Environment Federation Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC) in Chicago, Illinois earlier this month.

“Xylem is focused on enabling our customers to get the most out of their water and wastewater systems thanks to smart monitoring and control technology. Flygt MultiSmart enables our customers to take control of their pump stations,” says Patrik Stolpe, monitoring and control manager for Xylem.

“The controller’s advanced capabilities ensure that a pump station is run as efficiently as possible, saving valuable time as well as operational costs. Essentially, Flygt MultiSmart simplifies operations, making the operator’s job a lot easier by significantly reducing the complexity of controlling a pump station.”

The controller features built-in ‘pump reversal’ that prevents clogging and can also clean out the well by removing floatables periodically. Potential problems are recognized before they occur through an alarm system that prompts the operator to carry out necessary maintenance, avoiding the nuisance and expense of call outs.

Additionally, the intelligent controller monitors and calculates power usage in real time. This enables operators to identify and control any inefficiencies by leveraging the most efficient pump and reducing overall power consumption in the facility.

Flygt MultiSmart can control up to six pumps. With an intuitive interface, the controller is user friendly with a quick setup. A remote control feature also allows operators to keep tabs on the facility at all times while reducing the frequency of site visits. The controller is easily configured to suit a facility’s specific requirements by changing the default settings.
