Colfax introduces an online energy savings calculator for oil and gas industry pump applications. The calculator allows head-to-head comparisons between centrifugal pumps and rotary positive displacement pumps in both single and multiple pump applications. Check it out at the Colfax website.

Frost & Sullivan has honored NETZSCH Pumps & Systems with the 2011 Best Practice Award for increased customer benefit. NETZSCH's customer focus and product innovation were a few key factors in winning the award. NETZSCH is a leading manufacturer of progressive cavity pumps, screw pumps, lobe pumps, metering pumps and other equipment.

NETZSCH Mohnopumpen GmbH introduces a new version of its TORNADO rotary lobe pump. The new lobe pump is built to have a long service life and virtually eliminates any possibility of transmission damage due to leakage or contamination.

KSB introduces immersion variant of high-pressure pump. The new pump, called Movitec VCl, is a vertical, multistage centrifugal pump that can be used for handling coolants, condensate and lubricants for machine tools. The pump has a max flow rate of 27 m3/hr and the maximum discharge head is 250 m.

United Technologies Corp plans to sell pump manufacturers Milton Roy and Sundyne. Among other things Milton Roy specializes in metering pumps and centrifugal pumps. Sundyne manufactures industrial pumps and compressors for the process fluid and gas industries.

Chilean pump manufacturer Neptuno Pumps has been awarded a contract to supply a dozen vertical turbine pumps for a reclaim water system project at a copper mine in Chile.

Graco introduces a new hose pump that uses a single, oversized roller that compresses a low friction hose through a full 360-degrees of rotation. This design can put 40% less stress on the hose compared to conventional shoe pumps running at the same flow rate. The pump also has 50% more fluid flow per revolution than C-shape positive displacement pumps.

Lufkin Industries plans to purchase Zenith Oilfield Technology. Zenith is a developer of systems for down-hole monitoring, data gathering and control systems. The company also offers real-time optimization and control devices specifically for electric submersible pumps (ESPs) and progressing cavity pumps (PCPs).

Xylem introduces its Flowtronex Silent Storm Express (SSE) variable speed pumping system. The system was designed to advance remote pump control, with Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) efficiency. The SSE provides golf course maintenance managers with power management tools for a more green/sustainable solution.

Almatec, a leading manufacturer of AODD pumps will feature its BIOCOR Series Pumps at this years Anuga FoodTec trade show. The show targets the food and drink processing industry and will be held from March 27-30, 2012, in Cologne, Germany.

KSB has purchased a majority stake in the Danish pump manufacturer Smedegaard. Smedegaard produces circulating pumps used in heating systems.

According to a company press release, Jeff Wiemelt will assume the role of president for the Sundyne on January 1, 2012. Wiemelt previously held vice president and general manger of Sundyne Americas and Sundyne Dijon in France.

Karl Buscher is now the Senior Vice President of Pump Solutions Group (PSG) Commercial. A company press release states that Buscher will report to PSG President Dean Douglas.

ITT Goulds Pumps announced a worldwide effort to celebrate pumps. The company has established a Pump Appreciation Day on April 10, 2012. A company press release states that various festivities will recognize people who keep pumps running.

Fluid Dynamics, a division of Neptune Chemical Pump, announces that its dynaJET™ Dry Polymer Preparation technology can now be used in oil-and-gas production applications as a way of maximizing the recoverable resources found in mature wells.

Here's a great read in The Atlantic highlighting the importance of water pumps -- and the man who repairs them -- to a small Kenyan village. In a farm town as small as Kikuyu, you're in serious trouble if the motor on your water pump breaks down, the writer reports. "Crops wither and die quickly in the sweltering heat. New motors are expensive, and out of the price range of subsistence farmers."

On November 16, Xylem rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Gretchen McClain, president and CEO of Xylem was present at the event as well as representatives from each of the four value centers: Residential and Commercial Water (RCW), Water Solutions (formerly Water and Wastewater) Flow Control and Analytics.

Sulzer agrees to purchase Spanish pump company Hidrotecar SA. With the acquisition hopes to improve its water pump business throughout Europe, Middle East and Aftrica.

Ruhrpumpen announces magnetic driven centrifugal process pump. The SCE-M pump is used in the petrochemical industry. The company press release states that the SCE-M pump is an overhung, single stage, radially split, end suction, heavy duty centrifugal pump with permanent magnetic drive complying with API 685.

ITT Corp completes its acquisition of Blakers Pump Engineers. Blakers Pump Engineers is a long-time distributor of the Goulds Pumps brand in Australia. The company sells horizontal and vertical centrifugal pumps for the oil & gas, mining, water treatment, refining and other markets.

Versa-Matic unveils a new air-operated double diaphragm (AODD) pumps featuring the company's Elima-Matic Air Valve system. A company press release states that the Elima-Matic Air Valve system improves air efficiency and features a removable air valve sleeve and modular pilot and optional stainless steel air sections for harsh environments.

Xylem, Inc. is now fully operational as a global water technology company following its spinoff from ITT Corp. Xylem is headquartered in White Plains, NY and includes several brands including Bell & Gossett, Flojet, Flygt, Godwin, Goulds Water Technologies, WTW and YSI.

Blackmer announces the options of Neoprene mechanical seals and O-rings for its SGL Series of sliding vane pumps. According to a company press release, the Neoprene components have improved resilience characteristics and high tensile strength properties.

WEF has awarded ITT Corporation's Water and Wastewater group the 2011 Innovative Technology Award. ITT Water & Wastewater - Flygt Products was awarded in the category of "collection systems", for Flygt's patented N-pump. The N-pump features a clog-resistant design and is equipped with the newly-designed Adaptive Impeller functionality.

Thompson Pump assigns Gajeske, Inc., Best Line Equipment, and Power Equipment Company as a regional sales and service reps. The companies will represent Thompson Pump's extensive line of diaphragm pumps, jet pumps, trash pumps, hydraulic pumps, submerisible pumps and more throughout the US.

Hydroflo Pump, a leading US pump manufacturer of vertical turbine pumps, names Tonya Skinner president of the company. Skinner is one of only a few female executives in the pump manufacturing industry.

According to a company news release, Gorman-Rupp is receiving strong orders for its pumps in many major markets. Much of the increased demand is due to severe flooding problems. Gorman-Rupp manufacturers self-priming centrifugal pumps, standard centrifugal pumps, submersible pumps, trash pumps, gear pumps, and more.
