More information about gear pumps:
Gear pumps are considered positive displacement pumps. They are ideal for thicker fluids with high viscosities and are commonly used to pump paint, soaps, automotive oils, plastics, and adhesives.
Gear pumps rely upon the forces of displacement and suction to move a fluid through a piping system. They use meshed gears that move the liquid between the teeth of the gears and the walls of the casing. This creates a force of suction that draws liquid through the intake as the gears spin.
There are two main types of gear pumps, external and internal gear pumps. External gear pumps use two side-by-side spur, helical, or herringbone gears that mesh together. Internal gear pumps consist of a smaller idler gear that fits inside of the larger drive gear.
