More information about sump pumps:
Sump pumps are used to remove water from a basement or below a building’s foundation. They’re most commonly used in low-lying areas where foundations are below the water table, or in places that are prone to flash flooding or large, sudden snowmelt.
The most common sump pumps use an electrically powered centrifugal pump to get rid of the water. There are two main types - pedestal pumps and submersible pumps. A pedestal pump is generally less expensive and the motor is set above the water so that the electric part of the mechanism is never submerged. Alternatively, a submersible pump and motor both sit in a sump pit, surrounded by a waterproof casing.
